Dog Training | Paws 'n Claws in Erie, PA

At Paws ‘n Claws we believe that dogs are truly meant to be your best friend. Obedience isn’t just about compliance, it’s about motivating our dogs to want to do what we need them to. We commit to non-aversive, force-free and fear-free training with positive reinforcement. There’s no equipment required because you’ll learn that your best training tool is your own voice. Our recommendation is a group class where your dog will be around other dogs and people, which gives them real life experience you can’t get at home.

PLEASE NOTE:  Our training classes take place at our Erie location (1530 West 26th Street)

Group Class Details:

• 6 week course - $125
• Maximum of 6 dogs per class
• No prerequisites for Level 1 classes
• Proof of vaccinations is required (requirements for each course are mentioned on the applications)

Private/Individual Class Details:

• 1 hour course/week - $50
• Minimum of three classes in order for trainer to evaluate progress
• Focus on individual behavior(s)
• Proof of vaccines is required

All classes require the following:

• 6-foot leash (retractable leashes are not permitted)
• Plenty of delicious, soft treats
• Patience and a sense of humor

*Additional items may be needed and will be specified on the first day of class.*

If you are interested in signing up for any of our classes, print and complete the Application Form below for the class starting on the date of your choice.  Once the application is completed, drop it off at the the Erie location with full payment to hold your spot.

Train with play!  Off-leash training classes for dogs under 5 months of age.  Drop your puppy off for a full day of training and playing.  Focus is on socialization with other dogs and people, desensitization to sounds and being alone or apart from you.  We'll be teaching basic manners and obedience behaviors around distractions. Great to participate alongside or before our Puppy - Level 1 class (recommended but not required!)  We take a preventative approach to navigate common puppy pitfalls!  AKC STAR Puppy test optional, at no additional cost at the end of required six weeks.

Puppy Kindergarten (PK) is based on your schedule.  It is not a cohort.  Rather, your puppy is invited to participate on any Saturday(s) that work with your schedule.  Our Puppy Kindergarten is an awesome program and we love to see the growth our PK graduates acheive!

Off-leash training classes for dogs under 6 months of age. Focus on socialization with dogs, people, and things while also teaching basic manners. We take a preventative approach to navigate common puppy pitfalls! AKC STAR Puppy test included at the end of required six weeks (a $10 Value!)

Prerequisite: Level 1 or comparable test out (including Puppy Kindergarten).

Off-leash training class for the adolescent dog. Focus on continued training and socialization under intense distractions. Demonstrations on getting dog’s energy out and behaviors from level 1 are expanded and reinforced to get you through the adolescent dog phase.

On-leash training class for dogs over 6 months of age. Introduction to reward based, preventative, behavior substitution training, and basic manners. Teaching dogs to settle, loose leash walking, stay, all on cue. Introduction to AKC Canine Good Citizen behaviors.

On-leash training class for dogs over 6 months of age. Behaviors from first level are put to the test with intense, real-world distractions. Different reward systems, phasing out food, and getting reliable behaviors is the focus. AKC Canine Good Citizen behaviors are expanded and focused on.
